Phil Restino - Veterans for Peace

8/25/10 Meria interviews Phil Restino, Co – Chair of Central Florida Chapter of Veterans for Peace on impeaching Obama. Who are Veterans for Peace? Any veteran can join; veterans are listened to more than others – why ? 9 years of an illegal war of aggression; doing the same things the Nazi’s were tried at Nuremberg for; 9/11- why won’t peace groups pay attention? Why didn’t we go after Saudi Arabia and Bandar “Bush”? is this a “just” response? the anti war movement vs. 9/11 truth; divide and conquer; the Oathkeepers; Bush impeachment protests vs. Obama’s; Why play the race card? Why did Veterans for Peace change from their impeachment plans from 2005? What’s different about the Obama administration; worrying about funding or truth; the resolution which passed locally but was shot down nationally; duty; willful ignorance; Being against the war doesn’t mean being against the troops. Where are the anti war protests? What will it take?

In answer to the question “where is the anit-war movement?” I think the answer is that they’re driving their cars hundreds of miles a day to and from work, complaining if the exotic out-of-season fruits and vegetables from Chile aren’t in the produce section, buying a bunch of cheap, toxic plastic shit from China that they don’t need and spending 4 or more hours each day in front of the television set being hypnotized into irresponsible consumerism and pipe dreams of what constitutes a happy life a la “who wants to be a millionaire?”

There is no real anti-war movement per se because no one wants to give up the materialism that has replaced community and respect for nature.

By scapegoating the entire muslim religion for what ails the world they ignore the fact that ALL wars are fought for resources, Obama’s just bringin’ home the bacon to his deep-pocket sponsors and mindless Americans who would rather die than give up their cars and ipods and disposable clothing. Most people simply tune out the suffering of the world in the pursuit of fleeting “happiness”,a concept manipulated by un-human corporations who would eagerly sell you a bridge to nowhere.

Now is the time to “think small”. Learn how to earn your daily bread in the town where you live and switch to real assets like FOOD. Stop encouraging and celebrating the way the world breeds out of control, 6.8 billion on the planet today rising to 7B in 2012. That’s if the “christians” who just want the whole nightmare of people not agreeing with their superstitious dogma to end don’t have their way by imagining a hollywood-style apocalypse into reality.

Apologies for the cynicism but we had a window of opportunity in the 60′s and 70′s to make a course correction but I really think those days are gone, gone, gone. The only thing we can do is stay ahead of the herd by being aware of what is happening beyond the iron curtain of illusion.

Which is what people like you and shows like yours are for — the rest of us. So thanks again for holding open the doors of perception for those with ears to hear and eyes to see.

The problem is not over-breeding..it is excess & irresponsible consumption. We don’t need to have every appliance. What is the big deal about hanging clothes on a line to dry, planting a small garden, combining car outings, buying mostly “unpackaged food”, recycling everything possible ( if you have an old table ..cut it up & make shelves out of it ), using a fan instead of an a/c, taking a bus instead of a plane, washing dishes by hand, sleeping at night instead of the day ( thereby using less electricity to light the house ), etc ?
