“Separation of church and state” was intended to keep religion out of the government, not to keep religious leaders from espousing their political opinions. Having said that, I don’t believe that any church or non-profit entity should be exempt from taxes. It doesn’t have to be applied punitively, but across-the-board. Why should any sector of society be exempt from paying taxes?
